Growing near Sunlight: Youth and What We Model

young vines wind around whatever they find to help them grow near sunlight.

This haiku I wrote this morning is a reflection for me. A reflection that led to questions about what we as individuals and as a collective society make available to youth.

We offer platitudes and sermons, encouraging them to grow and to move toward reason and the "light."

But what do we make available to youth to empower them to do their own growing?

What would the youth around us say about our social media participation: what we post, re-post, our "conversations" and "discussions"? Do we even consider that sometimes when we rush to post? Or is it just for our own ego?

What would youth learn from us by our words and our actions? Or by the incongruity at times of our words and actions?

Please share your questions or reflections.
